Our competent professor, Mattia Marinelli, has received the Teacher of the Semester Award in relation to the course 𝘐𝘯𝘵𝘦𝘨𝘳𝘢𝘵𝘪𝘰𝘯 𝘰𝘧 𝘞𝘪𝘯𝘥 𝘗𝘰𝘸𝘦𝘳 𝘪𝘯 𝘵𝘩𝘦 𝘗𝘰𝘸𝘦𝘳 𝘚𝘺𝘴𝘵𝘦𝘮, from autumn 2025. This happened at the Teaching Day at Risø for DTU Wind teaching staff on Friday, 29th May.
Mattia has been a part of DTU Wind and Energy Systems since 2012, and was appointed professor last year, working towards the reinforcement of DTU’s leadership in electrification, digitalization, and prosumer integration.
The award is given by the Study Board at DTU Wind and Energy Systems for excellent and outstanding contributions to teaching at the Department, with the motivation:
Mattia is responsible for the two courses: 46740 Distributed energy technologies, modelling and control in spring, and 46745 Integration of wind power in the power system in autumn. Both courses attract many students; the first course attracts around 160 students, and the second course attracts 70 students.
Mattia Marinelli is a highly respected teacher with consistently excellent course evaluations every semester. He is an expert in his research field, which is reflected in his teaching and shared with the students following his courses.
Mattia can teach difficult topics in a clear and structured way and can motivate the students to follow the lessons with almost the same enthusiasm as he demonstrates himself. Furthermore, the students are never in doubt about what is expected of them, which is something we teachers should always be aware of.
I will end this motivation with two quotes from ‘46745 Integration of wind power in the power system’ from autumn 2025 that somehow contain the essence of it all:
"I felt the urge to stand up and applaud at the conclusion of every one of Mattia's lectures. His enthusiasm and style made the course that much more enjoyable. He is knowledgeable and approachable, spoke clearly and concisely, and was very engaging."
"I think Mattia is the best professor I have ever had. Throughout university, this is my overall favorite course and I have never been as motivated to learn about a subject as this one. Mattia's way of explaining is very good, and I think he presents the subjects in a very interesting manner."
On that background we are happy to award Mattia Marinelli with the recognition as ‘Teacher of the semester’, Fall 2025
