Smart Tip

Objective:
Innovative blade tips for wind turbines will be designed and tested, which can increase the existing rotor size, producing up to 8% more energy per year, while regulating loads in a smart way. New knowledge will be created on a range of innovations for tip design and selected concepts will be advanced through high fidelity analysis, prototyping, lab scale testing, and full-scale field testing.

Expected outcome:
The result of the project will be

  1. Tip designs through integrated design optimization using high-fidelity aeroelastic tools
  2. Validation and demonstration of the designs in a range of experiments and full scale field testing

The project began December 2017 and will run until December 2020
