2011: Siemens SWT 6.0 130
Siemens is installing the SWT-6.0-130 wind turbine, which is designed for offshore placement.
The product designation SWT-6.0-130 refers to a power output of 6 MW and a rotor diameter of 120 m. Additionally, the turbine has a hub height of 99.5 m and a tip height of 164.5 m.
Low weight was one of the key design goals for this gearless wind turbine. The nacelle and rotor together weigh less than 350 tons. A lower weight means reduced production costs for both the turbine itself and the tower and its support structures.
The SWT-6.0-130 was Siemens’ third gearless wind turbine model, following the 2.3 MW and 3 MW versions.
