2015: Research project RUNE

Høvsøre’s location near the coast and the test center’s infrastructure, with many years of measurements from the meteorological mast, are valuable in many research projects – including the large RUNE project.

RUNE stands for “Reducing Uncertainty of Near-shore wind resource Estimates using onshore lidars.” It was a research project aimed at studying wind flow in the coastal zone and identifying the most effective method for estimating wind resources near the coast.

The project was carried out from 2015 to 2016 and was supported by the ForskEL program. Lidars measured the wind from the coast approximately 8 km out over the water, and the measurements were compared with data from meteorological masts, satellites, and models.

The RUNE project helped improve understanding of wind variations in the coastal zone and reduce uncertainty in wind resource estimates.
