1998 Studies on new possible locations for test stations for large wind turbines in Denmark
The location of a test centre is chosen based on criteria that ensure optimal conditions for wind turbine testing and research. The most important criteria for wind turbine testing are:
- A flat terrain west of the test station, which means that the wind conditions at the turbines are very well described.
- A high average wind speed, which is suitable for testing wind turbines.
- Good infrastructure in the surrounding area, which makes it possible to transport large turbine components to the test centre.
- A strong electrical grid to which the turbines can be connected.
After a nationwide screening, Høvsøre was chosen as the location that best met the criteria for establishing a test centre.
