Remote Sensing Summer School

An international learning platform since 2008

Now in its second decade, the summer school brings together researchers, industry experts and participants from around the world to explore the latest methods, technologies and applications in wind energy. Through lectures, practical demonstrations, hands-on experiments and discussions, participants gain both theoretical insight and practical experience while expanding their professional networks.

Programme highlights

Each edition is developed around current research topics and invited speakers. While the programme evolves from year to year, previous editions have included:

Growing year after year

Since its launch, the DTU Remote Sensing Summer School has welcomed more than 400 participants from universities, research institutions and industry around the world.  Alongside editions held at DTU Risø Campus, the summer school has also been hosted in Bulgaria, Japan, and USA through collaborations with international academic partners. These editions have expanded opportunities for knowledge exchange, strengthened research networks between institutions, and exposed participants to different perspectives on remote sensing and wind energy. With each edition, the programme continues to evolve to reflect emerging research, new measurement technologies and the changing needs of the wind energy sector.

The summer school helped me understand how different lidar systems work and when each type is most useful. It was also a great opportunity to meet other researchers who are working on similar challenges from different perspectives.

Key information

The summer school welcomes PhD students, postdoctoral researchers, final-year MSc students, researchers and industry professionals with an interest in remote sensing and its applications in wind energy.
The summer school is a five-day in-person programme combining lectures, discussions, research exchange and networking activities.
Participants may earn 2.5 ECTS by attending the summer school and completing the requirements of the current edition.  
Applications typically open towards the beginning of the year.
