Workshop: Multiscale Modeling of the Atmosphere

The wind energy and atmospheric modeling communities continue facing challenges to seamlessly simulate atmospheric flow because of to its multiscale, spatio-temporal, and turbulent character, as well as the scarcity of comprehensive observations that can be used to evaluate the different atmospheric modeling approaches. This workshop highlights these challenges, and the need for multiscale atmospheric modeling to resolve the mesoscale and microscale meteorological phenomena, which are impacted by the terrain characteristics. Over the seas, in which large wind farm clusters have been deployed and planned, we are particularly interested in determining the effects of waves on atmospheric flow and turbulence that ultimately impact the turbines' performance and wake characteristics.

ORGANIZED BY THE 'MULTISCALE ATMOSPHERIC MODELING ABOVE THE SEAS' - MAMAS project.
