Tom Cronin is Teacher of the Semester for the autumn semester 2024. The award celebrates his remarkable contributions to teaching at the department of Wind and Energy Systems at DTU.
Tom joined the teaching team of DTU Wind for the course "Planning and Development of Wind Farms" in 2009, initially focusing on grid connection. Over the years, he expanded his role to include lectures on economics and technology. He is also actively involved in the online wind energy master education, where he is responsible for the course "Wind Energy in Society."
Last autumn, Tom took on significant responsibilities for the department's largest course, "Feasibility Studies of Energy Projects," which had 190 students. In co-operation with his colleagues Fabian Wagner and Lena Kitzing, he updated the course and improved its evaluation, with 88% of students agreeing that they learned a lot at the course.
In collaboration with Julia Kirch Kirkegaard and Sophie Nyborg, Tom developed the course "Socio-technical Dimensions of Renewable Energy" which has grown to 60 students in just three years. The course has already served as the foundation for many successful mixed-method master theses.
Tom's natural talent for teaching is evident in his fluent and engaging lecturing style, which is highly appreciated by students. His colleagues also commend his dedication and enjoy working with him.
Student feedback highlights Tom's excellence: "One of the best lecturers I have had – Tom is just a fantastic teacher. He is well structured and talks only about relevant stuff."
Congratulations to Tom Cronin on this well-deserved recognition!
