DTU Wind and Energy Systems has today released the
Global Wind Atlas (GWA) version 3.2. This new version of the free and web-based application represents another significant upgrade. As such, the GWA continues to help policymakers, planners and investors identify global, national, regional and local high-wind areas for wind power generation. DTU would like to acknowledge the funding provided by
ESMAP, as well as advice and translations provided by staff and consultants from the
World Bank.
Earlier versions of the GWA were in English language only. In GWA 3.2, DTU Wind, the World Bank and
Nazka Mapps introduce additional language versions for the five other official United Nations languages, namely Arabic, Chinese, French, Russian and Spanish. The GWA will automatically select the appropriate language based on the user’s browser settings. The language can also be adapted through a dropdown menu embedded in the navigation bar on top.
The GWA is currently visited by more than 30,000 persons each month, and we expect that the new language versions will increase the diversity of users and further increase the number of users from Arabic, Chinese, French, Russian and Spanish speaking regions.
