2012: Test Centre Østerild opens

Wind turbines are growing both in number and size, which increases the need for more and larger test sites. Therefore, Test Center Østerild is being built based on experiences from Høvsøre.

Test Center Østerild is a national test facility for large wind turbines, located in the Østerild dune plantation east of Thisted. The center was established in 2012 with the aim of strengthening Denmark’s leading position in wind turbine technology.

In 2012, the test center had seven test positions for wind turbines and was capable of testing turbines up to 250 m in height.

The test center also features a visitor center where people can learn more about wind energy and see the impressive turbines up close. The visitor center is open year-round and offers guided tours, exhibitions, and activities for all ages.
