The key drivers for the division are sustainability, manufacturing and digitalization. Our research provides solutions for design, manufacturing, testing, monitoring and operation of wind energy materials and components.
Meeting the 2050 wind energy deployment and Net Zero targets will require efficient and sustainable manufacturing together with new materials and design approaches. We focus on the development of the next generations of sustainable materials, components and structures by combining multidisciplinary research and modelling with experimental and operational data.
The key drivers for the division are sustainability, manufacturing and digitalisation. Our research provides solutions for design, manufacturing, testing, monitoring and operation of wind energy materials and components. We work with structural components like blades and foundations as well as with mechanical components like bearings, gearboxes and generators. We focus on structural design and asset management aiming at reducing CAPEX and OPEX.
Our materials and structures test facilities cover all relevant scales from single fibres at microscale to full blades up to 50 meters, enabling new testing methods and modelling connecting material properties with the full structural performance. Our manufacturing laboratories range from specimen scale to the full blade scale, including conventional manufacturing methods and additive manufacturing.
